How to play
Jigsaw is a fun simulation of table jigsaw puzzles. It provides you with a variety of pictures which are separated into jigsaw pieces, for you to put together as you would a regular jigsaw puzzle, using your mouse on a computer, or your finger in a smart device.
The Jigsaw game has a very simple and easy-to-learn interface. When entering the page, you'll be automatically greeted with a picture, and the three difficulty settings.
You can pick the Easy, Normal or Hard difficulty settings. On these settings, all that changes is the number of pieces that the puzzle will be made out of. The game will always have the same time limit, and the picture will not change in complexity with the difficulty settings.
If you don't like the picture that is shown, you can get a new one by reloading the page, as it's said in the game's introduction.
This is how the puzzle will load on your screen. The timer will also start as soon as the puzzle is shown. You will have 8 minutes to drag and drop the pieces, to create the starting image. The pieces will automatically attach to the correct ones when placed beside one another.
NOTE: Since the pieces are automatically placed with their correct side up, they do not need to be rotated. Every piece is already correctly rotated.
Here is a short explanation of what each element of the puzzle does:
- Timer. This is your game timer, that tells you how long you have to complete the puzzle. The timer will always show 8 minutes, no matter the chosen difficulty.
- Zoom. With this option, you can drag and drop the magnifying glass to the left and right, to make the puzzle pieces larger or smaller depending on what you prefer.
- Groupings. If you're confused about the pieces being messy and out of order, this option will place the pieces into different types of placements, so that you can locate the necessary ones with more ease while you play.
- Full Picture. This icon will let you look at the full picture you're trying to achieve with the puzzle.
- Pause. Click on this option to pause the game at any time.
- Drawer. If you need more order in your pieces, you can place them in this drawer, You can click on the arrow to open or close the drawer at any time. The pieces will always appear in the order which you've placed them.
The Pause Menu will give you several different options:
The Sound icon in the middle will allow you to mute the game's sound. Tips will give you a guide on how the game works. Credits allows you to see the team that worked on this game. Quit and Resume allow you to quit the game early, or return to it from the pause menu.
Tips
Jigsaw puzzles are a classic and enjoyable way to test your perception, vision, and general problem-solving abilities. Whether you're new to jigsaw puzzles or looking to improve your abilities, these top tips will help you enhance your game and make the most of your experience.
1. Start with the corners:
Begin by filling in the corner sections, and build upon them. Having a frame will let you solve the rest of the jigsaw puzzle in a better way.
2. Look for patterns:
If you find specific elements that fill two or three pieces, put them together. Having a larger cluster of pieces to insert will be easier than having smaller pieces to look for spaces to place in.
3. Look at the bigger picture:
Lots of details on the larger picture tend to be forgotten. Check exactly where smaller pieces will fit in, and place them in the immediate distance. This will let you put them in properly
4. Don't be afraid to guess:
In crossword puzzles, it's sometimes necessary to make educated guesses. If you think a word fits the clue and the available spaces, go ahead and write it down. If it doesn't work with other clues, you can always erase and try again.
5. Use the drawer:
Our game features a drawer to insert pieces into. Don't forget to use it to separate pieces by patterns. You can also organize pieces in different ways using our options.
6. Enjoy the process:
Remember that jigsaw puzzles are meant to be a fun and engaging pastime. Don't get discouraged if you get stuck with a puzzle or if you need help from time to time. The more you practice and learn, the more enjoyable the process will become.
By employing these tips and practicing regularly, you'll become a more proficient jigsaw puzzle solver. Embrace the challenge that jigsaw puzzles provide. Happy solving!
Scoring
General formula:
Final score = (10 * percent) + (Difficulty Bonus * percent) + (Time Bonus * 10);
Percent = value from 0 to 1.
NOTE: the percent is calculated by the number of pieces in the biggest group divided by the total number of pieces
EXAMPLE: If there are two large groups, such as one with 20 and one with 15 out of 35-piece puzzle, the percent would be 20/35= 0.571
Difficulty Bonus: EASY: 1000 points; MEDIUM: 2000 points; HARD: 3000 points
Time Bonus = 480 (8 min) minus the time spent.
Max possible score: EASY = 5810; MEDIUM = 6810; HARD = 7810.
