How to play
Categories is a simple game about placing words together. You have three new puzzles to play each day, as well as a collection of 500 puzzles to go through. This is how the main menu looks like:
You have the option to play the Daily Puzzle, or choose between 500 Levels, each with three different puzzles to play. You can also click on the Sound icon to turn on and off the game sound, and click on Stats to view the statistics of the puzzles you've solved.
Clicking on Daily Puzzle will take you to the puzzle choice menu, where you can choose between three different sizes of puzzle. These will have more words to connect and more categories.
To illustrate, let me show you the 3x3 puzzle, which has three categories and three words per each.
As you can see, there are nine words total, and three words per category. Your objective, is to select three words per each category, and solve the puzzle. Let's try it for this one.
In this case, we've selected Herd, Flock and Pod, three words that mean animal groupings. Once all three are selected, we can click Submit.
As you can see, the category has been filled and titled. You can now choose between the other categories to solve the puzzle. Once you've figured out all three, the puzzle is complete.
On the top right, you'll see a timer. Your result will be ranked based on this timer. Try and complete the puzzle as quickly as you can.
Chances Remaining refers to the chances you still have to solve the puzzle. Make three different mistakes, as shown here, and you will lose.
You also have other options below.
Reveal will automatically solve an entire category in exchange for watching an ad.
Shuffle will shuffle the word tiles above so that you may see them differently, try it if you can't make connections easily.
You can click on Deselect if you've selected any tile by mistake. It automatically deselects your last tile.
After you've selected all the tiles in a Category, you can Submit them with this icon.
If you've exausted the Daily Puzzle, you can try your hand at the 500 different puzzles we have to offer, each with three different options in size. You can reach them by clicking on 500 Levels in the starting menu.
Use the top arrows to navigate between each list of 100 levels. After picking the one you like, you can click on your prefered configuration (3x3, 4x4 or 5x5) to choose which puzzle you'd like to solve.
Scoring
Categories has no scoring system. This game is meant to be a fun daily puzzle, without a specific scoring system or leaderboard. The game is incompatible with the regular competitive Arkadium leaderboards, and it's meant for simple fun progression.
