This article contains everything you need to know about Arkadium’s Geoguessr Game.

Use the list below to navigate specific topics about the Geoguessr.

How to play

Geoguessr is a fun daily game about finding where you are around the world. Can you do it? Geoguessr uses data from Google Maps and Google Street View to create a fun world guessing game.

If you know how to use Google Street View, you'll find the controls in the game familiar. If not, you'll find a quick guide here. Click Play to start the game!

You'll be placed in a specific location from anywhere around the world. Your objective, is to recognize exactly where you are, and point it on a map.

You'll be able to turn around by dragging and dropping the mouse cursor around the screen. You can move by using the Movement Arrows that appear on the screen, or by clicking around the screen on a road. The movement arrows will move you around roads or paths on the screen. The Timer will let you know how long you still have to guess a location.

Below, the menu controls will look like this:

You can use the Plus and Minus buttons to zoom in or out, the Arrow to undo your last move, the Pin to place a checkpoint, and the Flag to go back to the start. Clicking on the wheel on the bottom left will take you to the Settings, where you'll be able to control your sound options and the look of the compass.

Let me provide an example of how to play the game. Notice how, in the starting image, a street name can be seen. By Zooming In, we can see it seems to be a French name.

NOTE: You can also use the mouse wheel to zoom in or out

Since the location seems to be a french-speaking country, let's try France. We can use the Map on the bottom right to search for France. We can do this by dragging and dropping just like in the normal game. Click on the location to leave a pin, then click on Guess to make your final guess. Be sure to watch out for the timer!

The map will then tell us how close the location is to our guess. It seems that it was quite close, 315 miles away in France! We earned 3,559 out of 5000 points. Click on Next Location to guess the next one.

After guessing 3 different places, you'll be able to see how you compare to the rest of the guessers all around the world. You can also play a bonus round to improve your score.

The bonus round will have you guessing one extra spot. After which, you'll be able to see how long until the next puzzle the following day.

Geoguessr has a different world-guessing puzzle each day. Come back every day and see how you match up in your world knowledge.

Tips

Here are some tips on how to get better at Geoguessr:

1. Master the Basics

Scan for language – Road signs, advertisements, and storefronts can give away a country.
Observe the road lines

  • Yellow middle lines → Americas, parts of Asia & Africa

  • White middle lines → Most of Europe

  • Dotted white or yellow → Can indicate country-specific patterns

2. Improve Your Meta Knowledge

 Road Numbering Systems

  • US: Blue shields for highways (e.g., I-95), green signs for state roads.

  • Europe: E-roads (e.g., E75) indicate highways spanning multiple countries.

  • Brazil: Federal roads have a BR-XXX numbering system.

3. Practice, Practice, Practice!

- Play daily challenges & review your guesses to improve over time.
- Experiment with pinpointing techniques using street signs, landscape clues, and vehicle plates.
- Try setting goals (e.g., getting a country streak of 20+).

Scoring

Geoguessr has its own scoring system for a daily puzzle and as such, it doesn't function directly with our leaderboards.
