How to play
Buzzwords is a fun spelling game that offers you a brand new challenge each day.
You play, by using the letters at your disposal to make words. You need to complete a specific number of words to finish each challenge.
As you can see, each letter has a number next to it. This relates to the score. All points put together will give you a specific word score in total. All words must use the middle letter, and all words must be at least 4 letters long.
You'll be able to see all of the words you've completed on top, as well as those required to complete the challenge. You'll also see your score, and how much you still have to score to reach a higher rank.
Larger scores will give you stars. Reach more stars and a higher rank by scoring big. If you use every letter available, you'll make a Pangram and score bonus points!
If you need help, you can use one Magnifying Glass to automatically type you a word.
You can shuffle the tiles should you like to look at the letters from a different angle, click on Submit if you've typed a correct word, or click Delete to remove letters you've typed.
At the end, you'll be able to see your score and how well you've done. You are limited by the number of words required, so try and score larger amounts of points, as well as more stars, with larger words.
Owl Points will allow you to level up your rank and reach higher and higher.
When starting the game, you'll see your rank in the middle, judged by how many puzzles you've completed and how well you've done. You can choose to tackle the daily challenge, or to try past challenges.
You can also click on the top left to access the settings menu. This will allow you to mute music and sound if you wish.
Be sure to sign in each day to receive brand new rewards. These will be helpful as you play. The more days you sign in, the better the reward.
You can also choose to double your rewards by watching an ad.
If you choose Past Challenges, you'll be taken to a calendar where you can tackle each day's puzzle. You can play today's and yesterday's puzzle at anytime. To unlock puzzles before those, you can choose to watch an ad, or pay 40 Gems.
NOTE: Due to the purchaseable nature of the older puzzles, subscribers will also be able to watch ads in exchange. We chose to allow subscribers this mechanic so that they would not be limited to using Gems to purchase levels.
You'll be able to see how many stars you've scored on each level. Completed levels are marked green, available levels are marked yellow. Locked levels are marked white.
As you score more stars, you'll be able to unlock more rewards along your path.
Have fun playing Buzzwords!
Tips
Here are some tips on how to improve at Buzzwords:
Core Strategies
Focus on the Center Tile Early
Since every word must include the center tile, start by thinking of common prefixes/suffixes that naturally include it.
Example: if the center tile is R, try endings like -er, -ers, -ing, -ed, -ry.
Work in Word Families
Once you find one base word, build variants around it:
play → plays, player, playing, replay
This racks up points quickly and reduces the chance you miss easy words.
Look for Prefixes and Suffixes
Common prefixes: re-, pre-, un-, in-, dis-, con-, pro-
Common suffixes: -ed, -er, -ing, -s, -ly, -ness
These stretch short words into higher-scoring ones.
Scan for Pangrams
Pangrams (using all 7 letters) are rare but high-value.
After finding several words, check if you’re just “missing one letter” to combine them into a pangram.
Word-Finding Techniques
Shuffle the Tiles: Your brain recognizes patterns better when the letters are rearranged.
Spot Common Letter Pairs: CH, SH, TH, ST, PR, TR — combining these can unlock bigger words.
Use Plurals & Verb Forms: Unless the game blocks them, try -s, -es, -ed, -ing.
Think About Word Roots: If you see bio, tele, graph, micro etc., branch from there.
Score Maximization
Go for Longer Words: A 7-letter word often scores more than several 4-letter words combined.
Don’t Ignore Short Ones: You need quantity as well as quality to clear the daily goal.
Balance Your Boosts: Save magnifying glass hints for:
Days with harder letter sets
When you’re close to the word quota
Unlocking a stubborn long/pangram word
And most of all, enjoy yourself with this fun daily game.
Scoring
The scoring system in Buzzwords works entirely within its Owl Points system and as such, it does not contain a leaderboard mechanic. For this reason, it's not compatible with the standard Arkadium leaderboards and traditional scoring scheme.
